Workshop: How to finance the just transition in practice in Europe? From the perspective of MFIs & funders

Europe needs and it is committing to a transition toward greening economy and society to achieve climate objectives and ensure a liveable planet. It is clear that such transition should be a just transition that ensure inclusion of more vulnerable population and make them actor of change, by strengthening their resiliencies and supporting their engagement in (environmentally, socially and economically) sustainable activities. Green Inclusive Finance can play a key role in Europe, by enabling poor households, micro, small enterprises to adapt to climate change, contribute to its mitigation by enhancing energy efficiency and use/production of renewable energies, as well as support their transformation into activities such as circular economy, smart mobility, sustainable agriculture among others. To do this, funds with dedicated conditions need to be available to MFIs, that can channel them to their clients. In this panel Per Micro, BNP Paribas and the JuST Institute will present the basic block of a proposal for a financial instrument aiming to accompany this transition, as well as their experience into the piloting for such instrument. Patria Credit will comment on the potential relevance of such instruments for Eastern European MFIs.
